February 2021
Fairtrade Fortnight: 22 February – 7 March 2021
Each year, Fairtrade Fortnight gives people across the UK the opportunity to celebrate Fairtrade achievements and learn more about the difference that Fairtrade makes. The theme this year is Climate Justice and pupils at Cowbridge School have the opportunity to participate in a number of activities, which will help them to learn about the growing challenges that climate change brings to farmers and workers in the communities Fairtrade works with. They will consider how the daily decisions that we make about what to eat, drink and wear affect the lives of people around the world – and the health of our planet.
The activities for Fairtrade Fortnight that pupils can participate in are as follows:
Year Group Google Classroom:
Fairtrade online assemblies
Literacy and Numeracy Google Classroom (classroom code axo6jg5)
Vale Fairtrade Fortnight School Competition*
Climate, Fairtrade and You (a selection of home learning tasks)
Fairtrade Fortnight Quiz
*The Vale Fairtrade Fortnight School Competition invites young people in the Vale of Glamorgan between the ages of 5 and 25 to share their vision of the world they want for farmers and workers worldwide, and the planet we all live on. Pupils can submit artwork, a poem, prose or film, for a chance to win prizes for themselves and for their school or college. Entries should be emailed to valefairtrade@gmail.com by 1 March 2021. Further information can be found here.
We would also encourage pupils to upload their submissions to the Literacy/Numeracy Google Classroom by 1 March 2021; a selection of work will be published on the school website and included in the school’s learning newsletter for the Spring/Summer Term. Prizes for the most creative entries will also be awarded in school.
