Vocal Rotary Competition 2024-25 - 07/10/2024

On 3rd October 2024, singers from Cowbridge School competed in the first round of the Rotary Young Musician Competition. The first round of the national competition, organised and supported by the Rotary, consisted of eight singers performing contrasting programmes to an appreciative audience and two adjudicators, Charlotte Giles and Caryl Thomas. The feedback from the adjudicators remarked on the high quality of all the performances, and the fantastic contribution from the accompanists who kindly gave their time to play for the competitors. Whilst the adjudicators deliberated, the audience were entertained by our fantastic Year 13 Girl Band, who performed a selection of popular items.  

The round was won by Isobel McMeechan (Year 12), who performed ‘Ach, Ich Fuhls’ from The Magic Flute (Mozart), ‘If I Loved You’ from Carousel (Rodgers & Hammerstein) and ‘Love’s Philosophy’ (Quilter). Gwenan Jones (Year 12) was awarded runner-up after her performance of ‘The Bird's Lament’ (Bennett) and

‘Blute nur, du liebes Herz’ from St Matthew Passion (J.S. Bach). We wish them both the best of luck in their preparations for the next round of the competition, and are very proud of all students who gave such a high standard of performance. Many thanks go to the Rotary for their continued support in providing this opportunity to students at Cowbridge School.
