Instrumental Rotary Competition 2024-25 - 22/11/2024
After the success of the Vocal Rotary Competition in October, Cowbridge School was proud to hold the Instrumental Competition on 20th November 2024. This was the first round of the national competition, and 7 talented instrumentalists from Cowbridge School delighted the audience and adjudicators with their repertoire. Caryl Thomas and Alan Bourne adjudicated the competition and commented on the high quality of all performances, noting the significance of the event and the confidence, motivation and practice required from all competitors. Whilst the adjudicators deliberated, the audience were entertained by our fantastic School Concert Band, led by our Brass teacher Mr Hutchinson.
The round was won by pianist Osian Bowen (Year 12), who performed ‘Pathetique' (the 2nd Movement) from Beethoven's Sonata No. 8 in C Minor, followed by 'Ostinato from Mikrokosmos' by Bartok. Violinist Isabel Harris (Year 13) was awarded runner-up after her performance of ‘Blues' from Ravel's Violin Sonata No.2, and 'Andantina' from The Homeland by Smetana. We wish them both the very best of luck in their preparations for the next round of the competition which will be held in January, and are very proud of all students who gave such a high standard of performance. Many thanks go to the accompanists who kindly gave their time to play for the competitors, and to the Rotary for their continued support in providing this opportunity to students at Cowbridge School.
