Our Story

Past, present, future

We are a popular and very successful, oversubscribed, co-educational secondary school situated in the market town of Cowbridge in the Vale of Glamorgan.  The school is able to trace its roots back to 1608 and we are proud of our history and reputation for excellence.

Our long tradition of academic excellence places us as one of the highest performing schools in Wales. As a result we will talk to you about children, our story and the next steps in our journey; we talk and care about children not statistics.  The redevelopment of the school and its site was completed in 2010 and provides our students with a truly 21st Century learning environment where each young person is challenged, nurtured and supported to reach his/her full potential.  The school serves a large rural area with 10 established feeder primary schools, from which the majority of students at the school have transferred. We also have a significant number of young people joining us from a wide number of additional schools as a result of parental choice.

Our facilities are state of the art. However, we dream big and then bigger again. Our ongoing capital development programme means that our facilities and resources will remain amongst the very best in Wales.

The Creative Arts flourish at Cowbridge Comprehensive School. Design technology work and artwork displayed around the school leaves onlookers in awe! As vibrant centres of excellence, students reach unforeseen potential. A large number of musical groups and ensembles rehearse each morning of the week.

Our talented students give stunning performances and productions which are widely recognised and appreciated.

Opportunities for Learning Beyond the Classroom

We believe that we are more than just a school; we provide a venue where a broad range of enrichment activities, community activities and educational visits enable young people to gain experiences that may otherwise be inaccessible to them.

Our exceptional ranges of activities beyond the classroom are central to school life; each year boasts a great repertoire of musical and drama performances, visits and activities aimed at developing well-rounded, resilient young people.

Health and Well-being 

Working in Partnership with Parents

Each stage of secondary education brings its own challenges. Form tutors, Leaders of Achievement and Support Staff specialise in specific year groups to help students to embrace change and the next phase of learning.

Staff play a pivotal role in monitoring and tracking individual student progress across the curriculum and for targeting support, advice and guidance on a day to day basis. We believe in open, transparent and swift communication and intervention and understand that parents are our key partners in ensuring a joint approach to learning in its widest sense.

Valuing Local and Global Connections

Our young people demonstrate high quality relationships with our wider community and as a result are upheld as ambassadors and positive role models for others in our community and beyond. Much of our community work is developed beyond the classroom walls. It is found in the dozens of activities and enthusiastic pupil-led committeesof the school.
