This page provides essential information for pupils and families about public examinations. The summer examination series includes the following:
GCSE Summer 2024-25
GCE Summer 2024-25
Public examinations typically start at 9:00 AM in the morning and 1:00 PM in the afternoon. However, pupils must confirm the exact start times of their examinations on their individual timetables which will be emailed to their school email account. Pupils are advised to arrive 15 minutes before the scheduled start time. Timetables will also provide details of the exam locations. Please note that all pupils must wear full school uniform for each exam.
Guidance from the Joint Council for Qualifications
During the 2024-25 academic year, pupils will be taking public exams (GCSE, GCE, BTEC). Strict procedures set by the Joint Council for Qualifications must be followed throughout the exam process. Pupils are strongly encouraged to review the important guidance for candidates, which can be found at this link: JCQ Candidate Information.
Year 7-9 Personalised Assessments
Pupils in Wales in Years 7-9 will take a series of national tests aimed at providing detailed insights into their progress in reading and numeracy (reasoning and procedural). These tests help identify areas where additional support may be needed to improve skills.
GCSE/Level 2 & A Level/Level 3 Qualifications
The majority of written exams are held during the summer series in May and June each year. Pupils in Years 10-13 may also take part in controlled assessments, oral exams, practicals, and Non-Examined Assessments (NEA) during their courses. Additionally, exams for GCSE Numeracy are available in the November series.
Individual examination timetables will be emailed to pupils’ school email addresses. During the exam period, pupils must arrive at the exam venue by 8:30 AM for morning sessions and 15 minutes prior to the start of the afternoon sessions. Full school uniform is required, and the sixth form dress code must be followed for all exams. Pupils should bring all necessary equipment as specified on the exam timetable. Please note that a black pen is required for all examinations.
Exam Preparation and Support
Pupils receive ongoing support throughout the year to help them prepare for their exams and assessments. This support includes workshops to develop effective revision techniques and strategies.
