Careers and Post 16

At Cowbridge School we believe in providing high quality Careers education, information, advice and guidance (CEIAG).

Our Careers and Work Related Experiences (CWRE) program aims to:

  • Equip students with the knowledge and skills and understanding needed for the world of work.

  • Support students in making informed decisions about their future.

  • Ensure that all students are treated equally and have access to the information and opportunities they need.

  • Build strong links with local and national organisations and employers so that students can benefit from their ‘real-world’ knowledge and experiences.

Year 9

During year 9 students will be refining their options choices (5 to 3) in readiness for their GCSE studies in years 10 and 11. Students will take part in a number of activities to ensure they are fully informed when making those choices. A knowledge of subject requirements and skills will help students to select realistic pathways for future study.

Year 10

As students settle into their programs of study, CWRE aims to enable students to start to consider future choices past compulsory education (Post 16). Thus will involve learning about the different pathways and options available to students and providing information on how students can start to access different organisations to support them at this interesting and crucial time.

Year 11

As students move through year 11 the main focus for them will be various modular assessments and the November and Summer series of GCSE examinations. Along side this students will start to make firm choices about their next steps. Through our CWRE program students will build a greater understanding of the options open to them and the entry requirements to follow different pathways. They will have access to a dedicated careers advisor from Careers Wales who will be able to offer independent and impartial bespoke advice for all pupils. Pupils will engage in application processes with school and other educational establishments as well as potentially employers who offer apprentice positions.
