The aim of the DFC School Committee is to form links with the local town committee, to make Cowbridge a place that is considerate of those living with Dementia and their carers. The committee strives to educate pupils attending Cowbridge School regarding Dementia. We hope to ensure that the younger generation have a positive impact on supporting those in our community living with Dementia inside and also outside of school.
We meet monthly as a school committee to check we are developing on our current projects and we are always creating new ideas on how to positively help the community when facing Dementia. We strengthen our links with the local committee by attending their meetings where we share our ideas and discuss ways in which the school can become involved.

The Dementia Friendly CCS Buddy Scheme.
The Cowbridge School Dementia Friendly Committee have a Buddy Scheme at a local care home for the elderly. Students work with patients with dementia using the Magic Table.
What is the Magic Table?
The Magic Table is an amazing and innovative piece of technology that is making a massive impact on dementia care around the world. It consists of a series of interactive light animations that are projected onto a table. Infrared sensors detect movement allowing players to play with light, which makes the experience truly magical. Specifically designed for people with mid-to-late stage dementia, it gently invites players to reach out and engage with the projections, allowing them to connect with each other, their surroundings and with those that are supporting the players. As the light animations are based on familiar objects and actions it will spark players to reminisce about the past and start sharing their personal stories with those around them.
